Founding Story

Following the passing of Essam Hassan Allam, his daughter May began laying the groundwork for a foundation dedicated to supporting impactful, evidence-based initiatives. Her vision centred on two areas close to their hearts: Agriculture — a sector Essam actively supported through numerous philanthropic efforts during his lifetime — and Education, which May believed was the key to unlocking opportunities and enabling entire communities to rise out of poverty.

Tragically, 18 months later, May passed away at the young age of thirty three after a courageous seven year battle with cancer.

The Essam and May Allam Foundation was then established in honour of those two extraordinary individuals who met life’s greatest challenges with unwavering generosity of spirit, and fortitude. The foundation stands both as an expression of gratitude for all they contributed and as a commitment to continuing the work they would have pursued had they been afforded more time.

We hope this foundation serves as a lasting vehicle for impactful, effective, and purposeful philanthropy — creating opportunities and uplifting communities for generations to come

About Us

EMAF operates through two strategic pillars;

Essam Allam Agriculture Accelerator

The Essam Allam Agriculture Accelerator addresses key challenges in agricultural climate resilience, productivity, market access for smallholder farmers, and food security.

May Allam Knowledge Incubator

The May Allam Knowledge Incubator works to improve early childhood and primary education, promote and preserve the Arabic language, conserve Middle Eastern arts and culture, and expand access to vocational training and scholarships.

Through these pillars, EMAF serves as a catalyst for transformative change—bridging the gap between research and practice to drive inclusive development that empowers individuals, uplifts communities, and fosters long-term resilience across Egypt.

These initiatives are designed to foster grassroots-level impact and empower underprivileged communities to overcome systemic barriers to opportunity. Through close collaboration with academic and research institutions, funding and technical partners, implementing NGOs, and governmental partners, we identify, test, and scale programs that are rigorously evaluated and community-informed.

By promoting research-based action, investing in local capacity, and sharing insights widely, the foundation ensures that interventions are not only effective but also sustainable and replicable. Our commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and cross-sector collaboration guides us as we work to build a resilient future for Egypt.
